Autodesk was founded in 1972. It started as a small in-house software development company, focusing on design, drafting, and drawing programs, primarily for the small business market. In 1981, the company, which had been named CD-i in 1979, was acquired by Corel Corporation for $38.5 million in cash and stock. It was then renamed to Corel, and its first product was PostScript, a vector graphics language for print publication. In 1982, Corel released its first CAD program, Interplan, and began marketing it as CorelDRAW, later shortened to CorelDRAW. In 1985, Autodesk acquired CorelDRAW, with an initial investment of $11 million in stock, and released CorelDRAW as its own product, renamed AutoCAD. In 1998, Autodesk acquired Macromedia, which added software development and multimedia capabilities to its existing product line. This acquisition and the release of AutoCAD R14, the successor to AutoCAD, were the first steps Autodesk’s Digital Media Division took in creating the world’s leading graphics and multimedia design tool.
The following is a comparison chart of features available in the current version of AutoCAD (R20) versus the initial release of AutoCAD (R12) in 1985, just 10 years ago. The chart is divided into sections for Layout, Drawing, Modelling, Revisions, and Miscellaneous.
A special, unique feature that AutoCAD does not have are the following:
– Text Editor (the ability to work with text in a text editor)
– Data Management (the ability to create databases of a specific type and manage data)
– GIS and Project Management (a database that can be accessed by any software to create maps, charts, or reports)
– Raster Graphics (the ability to create raster (bitmap) images)
– Shading (the ability to change the way objects are shown on the screen)
– Screen Saver (a program that allows you to draw a screen saver on your screen)
– Installing third-party software on your system (other than the standard Office program)
– Desktop Publishing (the ability to create desktop publishing files)
– How to draw (not available on AutoCAD)
– Adobe Flash (there is Flash for AutoCAD but Adobe Flash is for use with the

In 1994 the company created AutoCAD’s Dynamic Input Manager (DIM) — a plugin that helps designers create dynamic parts. This development allowed for creation of dynamic objects like bridges, viaducts, trees, pumps, etc. Later, it was upgraded to AutoCAD Dynamic Input Manager 2 (DIM2).
In 1999, in collaboration with Siemens, a 300 km/h highway network project with hundreds of buildings, a 32,000 sq. ft. office, and 500 computers, using AutoCAD was implemented. The total project took eight months and used only AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT.
The first version of AutoCAD was released on 8 May 1987.
AutoCAD is known for its emphasis on simplicity, making it easy to learn for users. The philosophy of AutoCAD is to be a software development environment. The user should be able to learn the tools as quickly as possible and use the software intuitively. In other words, AutoCAD was created with the goal of encouraging the user to do rather than tell them what to do.
One of the central purposes of AutoCAD is to provide the user with a reliable design environment. AutoCAD offers features such as basic construction techniques, comprehensive and accurate drawings, and the ability to add a unique look to your drawings. In addition, AutoCAD uses features that can be used in the implementation of user-customized features. For example, the Dynamic Input Manager (DIM) allows a user to create a simple model. This can then be used in a design by modifying the model for more complex situations.
AutoCAD uses a geometric approach to the creation of its own objects. Such objects as line, point, circle and polyline can be created by using the mouse. The shapes can be modified in many ways and the program can be made interactive by modifying the form of the objects that make up the design. When such objects are manipulated, they appear to have an animated life of their own.
AutoCAD has a wide range of features:
Basic calculation tools
Dynamic Input Manager (DIM)
One of the most powerful tools in AutoCAD is the drawing environment. A drawing is the primary output of a design. It can be interactive or non-interactive.

Cleveland, Ohio, police have arrested a police officer in the fatal shooting of a black man earlier this year, and the officer has been charged with voluntary manslaughter, in what is considered to be the first conviction for a white officer in the country since 1992.
District Attorney Timothy McGinty said at a news conference Monday that no gun was found in officer Michael Brelo’s cruiser after he shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice on Nov. 22. McGinty said in his press conference that Brelo used his in-car camera to record the shooting.
McGinty said that Brelo, who was cleared by a grand jury of criminal wrongdoing in the shooting, recorded a portion of the shooting after he had already fired, saying that the recording may be evidence of a possible coverup.
Brelo, a 29-year veteran of the force, has been charged with manslaughter and dereliction of duty.
McGinty said the charge of manslaughter in this case was “hard to explain.” The charge of voluntary manslaughter is usually applied when a person is in a state of passion as a result of some provocation, and the killing is not necessarily the result of a person’s decision, he said.
McGinty said the voluntary manslaughter charge was a result of the jury’s not having enough evidence to convict Brelo of aggravated murder. McGinty said that in the city of Cleveland, police officers are trained to use lethal force “when necessary” to protect themselves or others.
“In this case, that belief was not enough to convict the officer of an aggravated murder,” McGinty said.
Prosecutors said that the video was key in convincing the jury that the shooting was unnecessary and unprovoked.
“The jury believed that the officer violated his training and his standard operating procedure and he did so without justification,” said McGinty, the district
